Theory of Change

Our theory of change asserts that community vitality and resilience in the Flathead

Valley is enhanced when stakeholders are aligned around practical preparedness to anticipate and withstand increasing risk of floods, wildfire, and other climate-related stresses. Over the next decade, CSG will serve as a catalyst and convener to strengthen partnerships among residents, local governments, community organizations, schools, and businesses. By building trusted partnerships, supporting on-the-ground actions, and providing tangible benefits, we will increase awareness around the realities of climate disruption, promote community cohesion, and create replicable models of collaborative social networking.

Understanding the need to establish credibility in a generally distrustful, conservative political environment, our initial programs will help people implement public health safeguards for wildfire smoke, prepare for extreme weather, and reduce home flood insurance costs. We will serve those most vulnerable to climate impacts. These projects will plant seeds for cooperative approaches to strengthen community self-determination and adaptability in uncertain times. We will place specific emphasis on supporting youth, engaging them in hands-on projects, seeking their guidance for future initiatives, and amplifying their voice and agency.

Near-term program successes and broad-based partnerships will build long-term resilience by embedding preparedness and locally driven solutions that help Flathead communities reduce carbon emissions and improve our collective health, economy, and quality of life.
