AERO’s 2017 Expo and Annual meeting is being hosted in Butte, MT this year, on Oct 20-22.

AERO has been empowering communities to nurture and promote a more sustainable Montana since 1974 by focusing on renewable energy and sustainable agriculture practices for Montanans.  This year’s theme is all about elevating community leadership, highlighting the power and possibility in adaptive repurposing, particularly by “consulting the genius of the place” (to quote Wes Jackson and Alexander Pope).

Friday tours (which start in the morning at 10AM and run ’til 4PM) include visits to Sage Mountain Center, MT Tech’s geothermal energy project, NCAT’s SIFT Farm, the Original Mineyard, the Berkeley Pit and more.

Keynote speakers Gabe Brown, a pioneer in the agriculture soil health and carbon farming movement, and John Farrell, author of “Democratizing the Electricity System“, will headline and also participate in Saturday’s skill sharing workshops and panel sessions, all directed to promoting community resiliency and leadership for today and the future in these times of changing climates.

Sunday is dedicated to Task Force meetings on sustainable agriculture and renewable energy, followed by the organization’s annual meeting. The event ends at noon on Sunday.

All this plus the local food, music, live and silent auctions (including the infamous cake auction!), and good times, great folks and resources you expect at an AERO Expo.

The event takes place all around uptown Butte, showcasing Butte’s commitment to adaptive repurposing at a community scale, all the while consulting the genius of the place that is Butte, America.
