Reflecting on the past year, we are appreciative of supporters that are helping Climate Smart Glacier Country take meaningful actions toward building a more resilient, climate-ready future.
This year, we expanded partnerships to strengthen community preparedness and address the needs of vulnerable populations. We have created opportunities for community conversations, information sharing and collaboration on local solutions. As climate change continues to increase the intensity of wildfires and precipitation events, our work has become more urgent. In response, this year we launched our Fire and Rain Community Resilience Program to help communities better prepare for—and adapt to—the impacts of a changing climate.
One of our most important efforts is the launch of a Flood Preparedness Program. In western Montana, Flathead County faces the highest risk of a catastrophic flood event, putting homes, infrastructure, and local waterways at risk. Climate Smart Glacier Country is working with Flathead County officials, community stakeholders, and technical experts on scenario planning, flood mitigation and public outreach strategies. These efforts are designed to improve emergency readiness, enhance public safety, lower flood insurance rates, and protect the water quality that sustains our valley.
We are also expanding our Wildfire and Health Initiative. This year, we are piloting a new program to support child care facilities, helping them improve air quality during wildfire smoke events and develop preparedness plans that keep children safe. In 2026, we also will be working with the State of Montana to establish clean air centers in Flathead County.
To accomplish these growing efforts, we have expanded our board, contracted with a local resilience consultant, and applied for grants to strengthen our capacity. Your support is critical. When our community comes together, meaningful change is possible.
