According to the National Weather Service, heat is one of the leading weather-related killers in the United States, resulting in hundreds of fatalities each year. Heat can be very taxing on the body and heat related illnesses can occur with even a short period of exposure. For more information on heat safety: Heat Safety Tips and Resources (weather.gov)
When the National Weather Service issues a “Heat Advisory”, the Northwest Montana United Way opens its doors as a cooling center for seniors and families with children. The United Way is located at the Gateway Community Center in Kalispell. Climate Smart Glacier Country is pleased to support this service with a donation of activity books, puzzles, and games to help people beat the heat.
